Dessert Overboard
Oh my gosh! A moment of weakness. Totally lost control. What? Dessert overboard that’s what I’m calling it. We’ve all been there. We’ve all had that moment of weakness after a nice meal and then came the server with these tempting desserts to really push you over the edge.
That’s what happened to me when my wife and I were invited to the dining event at a Mitchell’s Fishmarket before opening day of their new location in Winter Park, FL. We were happy to attend, especially since all the food was free. Driving up and then walking in we were treated like we were really worth something,…boy if they only knew … LOL. We ordered some really great dishes. She had the Salmon and I had Alaskan King Crab. Both were great and had some nice steamed vege’s on the side. So now I’m thinking we didn’t do too bad as far as calorie counts, then came the hook.
Our dessert choices were explained and these to were….yep….FREE. Jeepers, who can pass up that? So in for a penny, in for a pound…literally! I think it was called “Sharkfin Pie”. Oreo cookie crust, butter fudge ice cream, honey roasted peanuts, fudge and peanut butter. Like I said “Oh My Gosh”! The calories in this had to have been in the red zone. I know that there must have been a paramedic waiting in the kitchen for me to collapse from either dessert overload or cardiac arrest.
So here’s my point of all this. Yep, I had a moment of weakness. But I’m not beating myself up over it. I did it, I was satisfied and I’ll move on towards a more successful day tomorrow, which I had by the way, especially with all the guilt…LOL. Seriously though, it’s okay to splurge occasionally. Get it out or in, and get over it. But I have one word of advice to all of you who go to this restaurant and try this dessert, SHARE. Please visit my earlier post on “Healthy Eating Habits” too. I know I need to.
And please have fun sharing this post too by clicking the SHARE button below and maybe giving it a little “Tweet” up top. Enjoy! Yum!

Hi Bill,
Funny, the same thing happened to me just today during the lunch hour. I was at the Madison Chamber of Commerce luncheon and they had placed the dessert on the table together with the salad. This is before they even served the main entree. I ate the chocolate cake with gusto. it looked delicious.
I’m on a fitness program and can’t exceed my daily calorie count, so what I did is not have a dessert later in the afternoon. Tonight I’ll be able to hit the gym without regret. I guess as long as we use moderation and don’t indulge over and over again we’re fine.
Have a great one!

Hey Bill
We all have those moments of weakness, but what better way to satisfy it
Mario and Peter, you guys are right. We all have those moments of weakness and we all know how to moderate. That’s the key! So as the weekend approaches, remember this post
Hi Bill,
Yea. I’ve been there too many times.
Usually when I get depressed.

Wow, I forgot to eat dinner tonight and then read this. Now I am really hungry. It is not the calories, but what you think about what you are eating. If you feel guilty eating it then it will surely put the pounds on you.
Hi Bill!
Oh My Goodness, that dessert!
Ah, I do need to behave a little better when it comes to food. I used to be a super health freak but seem to have lost the ‘thing’ that kept me on that path… I can’t find a balance, when I was really driven to be healthy, I never ever succumbed, that stuff just didn’t interest me in the slightest!
This post has really made me think, to be able to enjoy a huge dessert and then move on right back to healthy eating takes a lot of willpower. Me, when I started giving in to temptations, that was it, it seemed to affect everything else…
OK rambling over!
Have a great weekend,
Emma
I read that something like 70-80% of americans have a yeast imbalance – which is exascerbated by processed sugar (and other things). Something I did that has changed my life is to give up processed sugar and only eat things sweetened with honey, unrefined sugar, etc. You don’t really give up much in taste and you feel a ton better. Good thought-provoking article Bill.
Bill, that dessert looks (and sounds!) like it was delicious!! I know what you mean about sometimes going overboard ~ especially after feeling good for having eaten a healthy meal. I like that you said about sharing…always a great way to indulge a little on those extra calories & still feel good
Christine
Hi Bill,
Yum! I can’t blame you … everything sounds delicious, and that cake – wow! I appreciate the tip on not blaming yourself for moments of weakness, but to move on! It’s about balance, not gorging yourself and not guilt, right?
Have a great weekend!

Bill, Wish I hadn’t just had a great big piece of pavlova before reading this post, now I feel guilty. No just kidding I enjoyed it and like to be with Nicole in that it is not the calories, but what you think about what you are eating. Well thats what I tell myself anyway. There is still one yummy piece of pavlova inthe frig calling me.

Hi Bill!
OMG! LOL! I know what you mean! I suppose every now and then it couldn’t hurt – then you just have to get back to where you were. Although it’s easier if you don’t go for the deserts, but that wouldn’t be human would it?:-) .. yum. I know, I know …
I had a very similar experience this weekend, but it was the beer that sidelined my training. lol
Great Blog post Bill. Sounds like my weekend with the Wedding shower and then a BBQ summer party at night and on Sunday another BBQ. I blow the whole weekend. But your right you cannot beat yourself up about it. Just pick up where you left off and getting moving. I think it is okay to treat your self once in awhile keeps your body moving. Hope your having a wonderful day.
Hey Bill, I agree it’s OK once in a while to satisfy your sweet tooth! It’s just one of life’s pleasures! Great post! Thanks, Joseph McDevitt
Hey Bill,
Great post my friend. We can all relate to this for sure! I totally agree with you that we need to go through these things and get over it and move on. It is amazing what we can do when we are determined to move forward past these things and continue on towards our goals in our health. Glad to hear that a great health and fitness guy like you can have moments of weakness.
Make it a great day!
God Bless,

Hi Bill,
This is funny, I just got on the net and came across this post after my moment of weakness. I just had one of those 5 minute chocolate mug cakes and it’s 11pm at night! OK so I too will have to move past it and realise it’s OK every now and then. I’ll be up early for a walk in the morning, that’s TWO good things
Cheers,
Lynn
Yep, splurging can definitely be good at times! I splurged yesterday by having a cupcake and a can of coke (my first in 9 months:)
Bill
I think I need to come to Flordia and have some of that pie!!!!! Thanks for reminding us that it’s okay to splurge occasionally, that could go for other areas in our lives too!
Have a Great Day
Chester
Bill,
We agree… if we beat ourselves up over all the things we do that we feel we shouldn’t have, then it defeats the purpose… weren’t we doing this for enjoyment in the first place? Enjoy it and don’t look back… look forward to getting on track tomorrow.
Thanks for the reminder,
~ Pat and Lorna
