Motivation Tips

  • Motivational TipInertia – When you act or start in motion doing something you set a course and begin a process of making strides or steps towards reaching a goal.  You get past that thinking phase and start living and doing instead of dreaming.  We all know that a body in motion tends to stay in motion or is easily kept there by a little effort.  But have you ever helped a friend out pushing their car into the driveway or to a gas station?  Dang it’s hard to get started isn’t it.  But once you start moving it’s like a breath of fresh air.  Not nearly the effort to keep it rolling versus when it was still.  That’s how we are in life.  This motivational tip is simply “Start moving”  do something.  Get up, take action, do some jumping jacks, I don’t care what it is, just start that body and brain clicking into gear.  Usually once you start the process, it will continue.
  • Let Go – I was reading a great book “Who Moved My Cheese” and one of the tips there was “The Quicker You Let Go Of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Find New Cheese”.  This motivational tip for me meant that as soon as I let go of an old habit (stuck in a rut) I would find that new one.  Now that also meant I needed to have a course set or plan of action but to get there, I had to let loose, let go and leave behind one that was holding me back or keeping me in that rut.  Believe you me, I was ready for a new way.  I hate it when I’m stuck.  I know the new thing I’m about to do is much better, but I’m afraid to let go of the old one.  It’s hard I know, but you will never know how much better you can be until you “Let Go”.
  • Persistence – Here’s the one I really like.  Picture the baby on the floor.  It gets up and starts trying to walk, but falls down.  We expect it, We know it’s going to happen.  But does the baby give up?  I’ve not seen one have you?  Does it use courage to try again?  I don;t think so.  This baby has no courage.  All that it knows is that it wants to get up and keep trying.  WOW.  That’s what we need more of in life.  We need to take this baby’s example and keep doing it.  This actually could be a whole article i itself, but I think you’ve quickly grasped the meaning.  If we’re willing to endure, to keep moving, do whatever it takes for however long it takes, then we’ll see success.  The challenge will come.  Expect it, embrace it, be creative and work around it or through it, but keep on keeping on.  The most skillful person, or the most talented, or the gifted person will always finish behind the most inept, the least talented or behind someone who does not.  So hang in there…
  • Habits – Here’s an easy one for me to think about.  For example, eating habits and what they may be doing to your body.  Are they bad?  What are they doing to your health, your level of energy?  If you keep doing the thing you are doing, are you likely to get the results you’re looking for?  Probably not.  So why not set in motion a “cause” that will have an “effect” on the outcome of your life.  If you can answer “no” to the question, “Am I setting in motion a plan that will get me in better health” then you have a clue to why the things you want to change about your body are not happening.  Now you know what to do about it.
  • Optimism – This truly is one I see every day in the lives of those who I work with, interact with or come into contact with some way or another.  We need to be Optimistic and not the other word we all are thinking right now.  We must decide to respond positively to the words or actions we hear from another person as we go through the day.  That’s a hard one because it doesn’t seem to be our tendency.  We need to react and respond with a positive mindset, attitude and actions to the people or situations that confront us.  These will set the course and mood or emotions of us as we walk through the day.  Look for a solution to every problem and not complain about it.  Truly this one needs to be part of our lives each day.
  • Focus – Is this a bit fuzzy?  Hmmm – it could be.  Have you ever been sitting and just kind of phase out?  Time seems to slip by and then we snap back to it and continue doing what we were doing.  What if you could clearly focus on the task at hand.  Determined, concentrated, Lazar like focus.  We might be able to accomplish that thing or give that person the attention they need or reach that goal faster then we would just going through the motions like we do at times.  Purposeful thoughts and movement will help us to succeed at life and we will be rewarded with and end result that will propel us to the next one.

So, here were just a few of my thoughts for myself and you.  I hope that you can take some of these and place them in your life today, tomorrow and the years to come to help you be a better person.  If not for anyone else, but for yourself.
