Motivational Tip #2 Eat That Frog
WHAT? Eat that Frog. You have got to be kidding me! No I’m not. OK, maybe a little, but it’s really not that difficult. You see, with a little seasoning, a bit of ketchup and… oh I really am kidding now.
It’s a term used by a friend of mine Brian Tracy. He wrote a fantastic book on this subject and makes a lot of good points. But here’s the quick and dirty on this little tidbit. Do the thing that is hardest or takes the longest at the start of the day. Do the hardest one first, then every thing after that will be easy peasy. Doing the hardest one first accomplishes a lot. It gets a good task done and gives you a huge success to mentally check off as being done. For me, these seem to give me a bit of rush with the endorphins that kick in once I’ve completed something, see the success and feel good about the results.
So we all would admit, to eat a frog would be a difficult thing to do. I’m not talking about the fried frog legs in some southern cities, but the real, yucky, slimy, croaking thing that is very disgusting. Some of the large tasks we have seem that way, but we should break them down into little bite sizes (or smaller tasks for you who get queasy) and plow our way through them early in the day.
End of day… SUCCESS! So go out there and Eat That Frog!

BIll,
I love this story! I use it quite a bit on my speaking events. Seriously, what could be worse after that…!!

Hi Bill,
I have a lot of frogs on my pond. So I loved this analogy. And you are so right, we should do the hard things first every day (like exercising for me some days) It makes our day go better.
Thanks for sharing this.
This is so true. When I manage to get that difficult task taken care of I have energy for just about anything after that.
Using the frog is a great way to get the point across. I will definitely share your story with others.
This is great advice Bill! The longer you put off that hard task, the least likely you will do it. The day will take over and it wont get done! I like to exercise first to make it a priority and get it done!
I’ve found that doing the most difficult thing first for me is my workout for the day! As soon as I get that done, I get all pumped up for the day!
I have the demo to Eat That Frog on my Kindle, but I haven’t yet bought it… I’ll need to get it now
GREAT BOOK! I bought it to read on the way home from our Team Beachbody Coach Summit in LA last year (almost time for the next one…YAY!). But it’s SO true! When you get to check off that BIG…UGLY frog of a task first thing in the morning, it just makes the rest of your day go by that much easier! It’s a psychological stimulant that makes you want to accomplish MORE!!! Love it! Thanks for the reminder Bill! Now…where is that frog?
Sammy went out on the lania and chased a frog but once he got real close I think he knew not to bite it. LOL…. too funny. But the real book was a good one worth reading several times. Love those kind of books!
