My Weight Loss Story

My Weight Loss Story

I’ve been wanting to write this for some time now but never really got around to it.  So, pen in hand…uh…keyboard at the ready, …here I go.

I can’t say that I was overweight, unless I go by the CDC center’s guidelines on obesity which says that my BMI greater than 30 I would be obese.  Well then, maybe a tad, but you never would have known it for the golf shirts.  The start of my weight loss journey found me in a hotel room in Atlanta, GA, lying on the bed, eating a doughnut while flipping through the TV after a hard day at work.  Feeling lethargic would be saying it mildly.  I came across the at home workout program, P90X infomercial.  I was amazed at what I saw.   Those guys on TV were moving, jumping, doing pull ups, push ups and things I never knew existed.  It looked hard, it looked like a killer workout but it looked like it got results!  Now this was truth TV.

I never knew you could get results by doing a workout at home.  I’ve never been one to workout at home with a DVD either.  Now I knew there was no magic pill to weight loss, but seeing this P90X workout made my mind say, “Here’s the magic pill”.  I picked up the phone, ordered it and haven’t looked back since.

The P90X workout came in the mail that week and I eagerly opened it and read all the material.  I set my workout journey to begin on the following Monday with doing my “fit test” on Sunday.  My wife watched while I was doing my fit test and laughed a few times.  How encouraging was that?  Actually it pushed me harder and helped to cement my resolve.  I threw the mental switch in my mind that I was going to do this, stick to it and get in shape, “the BEST shape of my life”!  Part of the fit test included doing pull ups.  Easy right?  Wrong!  Wide grip, overhand I did an amazing 1 and ¾.  Very embarrassing.

Monday morning 4 am came bright and early,…well not so bright, but early.  My at home workout with P90X started by popping in the DVD “Chest and Back”.  So what do you think I did?  Lots of push ups and lots of pull ups.  Well, lots of attempts anyway.  I logged all of my results on a P90X workout sheet .  All throughout the P90X workout, Tony Horton kept telling me to “do my best and forget the rest”.  That’s what I did, my best.  I couldn’t do near as many as everyone on the workouts, but I  felt a great accomplishment at having started the ball rolling and moved past the inertia keeping me in a life of unhealthy living with no exercise.  And guys, playing golf riding in a golf cart doesn’t count as exercise.

So I’m not going to go through all of the 12 DVD’s that come with P90X at home workout like Chest and Back, Plyometrics, Shoulders and Arms, Yoga, Legs and Back, Kenpo, Stretch, Core Synergistics, Chest shoulders and Triceps, Back and Biceps, Cardio and Ab Ripper but to tell you that it is a 90 day at home workout program that will absolutely change your life.  How did it change mine?  I’m glad you asked.

before and afterI went from weighing 187 lbs. to 162 lbs. in 90 days!  Now that’s true weight loss! You can see my before and after photo here.  Did I change or what?  Does it work or not?  Pictures don’t lie,…well if I photo-shopped them they would, but I’m NOT that smart.

I believed in this program so much that I clicked on one little button on my online website that Beachbody gave me when I ordered P90X and I became “A Coach”.  Now I get to encourage others to start their at home workout journey just like me and see success in weight loss, just like me.  And I get paid to do it.  Now that’s just icing on the cake… not that I’m eating it mind you :-)

So there you have it.  Lots of sweat left on the floor, lots of fat burning and fat loss and I’m on my way to being in the best shape of my life.

If you think this article was helpful, please take a moment and “Share it” using the button below so some other “lethargic, doughnut eating, hard worker” can discover the same “magic pill” that I did.

Is P90X Too Hard?

Well…  life is too hard at times but we don’t quit do we?  When you were a baby learning to walk did you fall down?  Did you say to yourself, “hey this walking thing is too hard, I’m just going to stay crawling around on this floor”.  Baby WalkingNo you didn’t say it because you couldn’t talk silly.  No really, mentally you didn’t stay down.  You got right back up until it became easier and a way of life to you.  When was the last time you called it quits and just got back down on your hands and knees and gave up on walking?

P90X is hard if you have never exercised or have a lot of excess fat to lose.  But aren’t most good things in life hard to get?  If it’s really important to you, you go after it and don’t stop until you get it.  P90X is sort of like that except something happens after that first week or so.  Your body says “Hey, I can do this.  And I’m not going to die. And I kind of like it!”  You start out with week one, doing many different things.  If you eat well, your body literally takes on new life.  You start losing weight, your metabolism gets kicked into high gear and you start having more energy.  Wow, who doesn’t want that?

There are three different intensity levels with the P90X program.  You get to choose from a “Lean” version, to the “Classic” to the “Doubles”.  And even within each different level you choose, you can ramp it up or down.  If doing 24 moves is too much, then cut it in half for awhile.  But Tony Horton, author and trainer, is there to always encourage you.  His motto of “Do your best and forget the rest” keeps you going.  So is too hard?  I say NO.

What will be harder is NOT doing it.  We live and walk around in this world working and having fun, or wanting to.  Why wouldn’t we want to take care of the one thing that would allow us to do the others?  Our bodies!  So if we take care of them then we can live, eat, work and play with a healthier body and be better protected against the things that would try and hurt us.

So what are you waiting for?  An invitation?  Here it is.  I’m inviting you to take part in a body and life transformation.  Order P90X and with it I’ll become your personal coach to help keep you motivated and on track.  So take this moment and stop crawling around the unhealthy lifestyle of not exercising and STAND UP, Decide!…Commit!… and be on your way to WALKING a different life in Success!

Over The Top Krispy Kreme Burger

Krispy Kreme Burger

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

WOW!  As a yearly State Fair attendee, I love going and seeing the sights and sounds and smells of the Fair.  The animal competitions from cows, horses, pigs, bunnies, chickens and all the rest of Farmer McDonald’s crew.  But this year I was especially shocked as I passed by one vendor serving the typical fair food.

If you’re going to the Fair we all know that we’re going to consume something that is just not quite good for us.  And actually I’m OK with that.  ONE meal or one day of splurging on some fair food probably will not kill you.  Just as ONE day of eating purely healthy food is not going to make you healthy.  It’s a daily process, turned into weeks and months and years where the benefit OR the destruction pays off.

But I just had to write about the “Over The Top” food I saw.  Over the years the Fair has found new life in serving new stuff.  Deep fried Twinkies, Snickers bars, Oreo’s, pickles and pretty much everything you can think of has made it’s way onto the boulevard. This year was the first time I saw this.  Krispy Kreme burgers.  WOW!  I left the picture large so you could get the feel for what I saw.  I was drooling and sickened in my heart all at the same time.  That little voice inside me that I so long ago repressed and at times have to continue to beat down awakened to those doughnut memories of times gone by.  I really think the sign said it all “Over The Top”.  Kind of reminded me of the vendor selling deep fried Twinkies and asking “would you like powdered sugar on that Sir?”.  Answering no, because that would “put it over the top” wouldn’t it?

Okay I’m being a little silly here I know, but here’s the REAL implication of caving in and downing one of these burgers.  This gem consists of one Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut, one burger patti, cheese, 3 slices of bacon, mayo, lettuce and tomato.  For a whopping 800 calories and 75 grams of FAT!  Now some of you know from reading my earlier article on Abs are Made in the Kitchen, you have just done some quick math and found that you’ve almost reached your daily calorie count with just this ONE burger.   This same vendor also had the following fare offered to those who might not think the burger was too much.  Deep Fried “Butter”!

So I’m going to let you decide for yourself.  I admit, I did have a corn dog at the Fair today, but I also had a lean grilled pork loin later on.  I hope that you make food choices throughout the day, week and months that will help you to live longer, be healthier and curve this trend of Obesity that our nation seems to be on.  I can help you make some good choices with substituting one meal a day with Shakeology.  Look again at these pictures in this post, then visit my page, prepared especially for YOU on a better, healthier choice.

Decide today! Commit to you decision! Succeed in your Health!
